Step 1: In a large bowl, combine 1/4 cup sugar, 1/2 cup hot milk, 1/2 cup lukewarm water and 1 pkg. Of baking powder. Leave to rest for 10 minutes.
2nd step: Add 3 cups of flour, 4 tablespoons of softened butter and 1 teaspoon of salt and mix.
Step 3: Knead dough on lightly floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes.
Step 4: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover tightly with plastic wrap and set aside in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
Step 5: Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine 1/2 cup of the remaining sugar, 2 tablespoons of cinnamon and 8 tablespoons (1 stick) of melted butter to make the filling.
Step 6: Remove the dough from the bowl. Knead the dough into a log in the shape of a loaf and place it in a lightly greased 9 by 5 inch loaf pan (otherwise, do not grease and line the loaf pan with parchment paper). Make 4 transverse slits in the log of dough.
Step 7: Brush the bread with the filling, making sure the filling goes into the slits.
Step 8: Set aside in a warm place, uncovered, to rise for another 30 minutes. While the bread is on its second rising, preheat the oven to 350F.
Step 9: Bake for 35 minutes, or until golden brown.
Step 10: Meanwhile, prepare the frosting: whisk together 1 cup of sifted powdered sugar, remaining 1/4 cup of hot milk, remaining 2 tablespoons of melted butter and a pinch of salt until smooth. Pour icing over hot bread before serving.
